Four Seasons Wailea
Wailea, Maui, Hawaii
The Four Seasons Wailea, which adjoins The Grand Wailea Resort, was completed in 1990 at a cost of $2,500,000.00 for landscaping. The landscaping at this property reflects a more palatial theme from the Royal Palms that line the entry drive to the formal gardens, terraces and fountains which cascade from the inner courtyard down to the sea below.
Because of the relatively small 15-acre site, outdoor areas were maximized for the use and enjoyment of the hotel’s guests. To attain this goal and to achieve the greatest number of ocean view rooms, a u-shaped building surrounding a broad courtyard was designed with a sweeping grand stairway descending to the pool and beach below. Although this design by itself was not unusual, the landscaping of the roof deck courtyard had to be designed giving little or no hint to the parking facilities, ballroom and back house located on varying levels below.
