Walters, Kimura, Motoda, Inc. - Hanauma Bay Marine Education Center

Hanauma Bay Marine Education Center is located on the southeastern coast of Oahu about 12 miles from Honolulu. Designed to educate visitors of the preserve’s natural history, ongoing conservation efforts and safety information, this project was met with opposition as it was thought that the center would place further strain on the bay’s already fragile ecosystem. Native Hawaiian and Polynesian-introduced plant materials would be the means by which visible remnants of new construction would be concealed and upper levels of buildings returned back to its natural environment.
